His mother’s family is originally from Michigan.

Nick played on his school’s baseball team and he took the team to the finale winning the Florida state championship during his sophomore year.

After finishing his senior year, Nick was named Gatorade Player of the Year for the state of Florida.

Straight out of high school, he was drafted by the Detroit Tigers as the 44th overall pick, in the 2010 Major League Baseball draft. He made his major league debut for them on September 7, 2013.

His father was diagnosed with brain cancer in 2017.

Over the years, Nick has played for the Detroit Tigers (2013–2019), Chicago Cubs (2019), Cincinnati Reds (2020–2021), and Philadelphia Phillies (2022–Present).

Nick is a two-time All-Star (2021, 2023).
